#SOLAREWOMAN • Jeana Sohn
Women are why we created Solare. Women evoke a strength, creativity and natural, raw beauty that deserves celebrating. #SOLAREWOMAN is a glimpse into the lives of some of the most inspiring women we know.
Korean photographer, artist, and founder of the self-named clothing line Jeana Sohn creates a life of minimal and elegant design in every aspect. Tailoring her apparel line to the modern woman, she talked with us about how she keeps centered while mothering, designing, and everything in between.
Our shop muse, Georgia O’Keeffe epitomized our ethos of self-care for strength and creativity - how important is self-care for supporting your creativity?
When you feel burned out or you are losing your mind from stress, your creativity dies as well. So, yes, self-care is vital to keep the creativity flowing.
"Every morning, I make a cup of cappuccino, sit in my breakfast nook, and have a quiet 20 minutes for myself. That’s my favorite time of day and my family respects that and gives me space."
How has motherhood shaped the way you view self-care?
After giving birth (really difficult birth) I have much greater self-respect and love for myself. I have less personal time, but I definitely do more self-care than before. I want to be a healthy person for my child, both physically and mentally.
Can you speak to the importance of rituals in your daily life - what rituals do you practice?
Every morning, I make a cup of cappuccino, sit in my breakfast nook, and have a quiet 20 minutes for myself. That’s my favorite time of day and my family respects that and gives me space.
Also, I’ve been learning Spanish for 2 years. No matter how busy I am, I go to my class twice a week and I’m very proud of it. My Spanish study is not just about speaking fluently - It’s about feeding my brain and learning something that is out of my comfort zone. It makes me feel really good about myself. It’s so nice to turn off “work mode” for a little bit and focus on something unrelated. I also do pilates for the same reason.
What women inspire strength, creativity, and/or intentional living to you and why?
I’m surrounded by friends who are strong mothers, small business owners, and creators. I talk to them whenever I go through hard times and they always give me amazing support and advice.
