#SOLAREWOMAN: Rachel Corry
We welcome you to our new series #SOLAREWOMAN.
Women are why we created Solare; we evoke a strength, creativity and natural, raw beauty that deserves celebrating. #SOLAREWOMAN is a glimpse into the lives of some of the most inspiring women we know.
One of the first women we reached out to was Portland-dweller Rachel Corry, founder of Rachel Sees Snail Shoes, Pansy, and Fauvist. From her passionate use of color to her one-of-a-kind handcrafted shoes, Rachel infuses purpose and effortless style in everything she does.
She took a few minutes to chat with us about her approach to the Solare lifestyle and filled us in on who she’s most inspired by.
Part of the Solare mission is finding abundance in scarcity, whether that means using fewer ingredients in our beauty routines, paring down what’s in our environments, or being thankful/mindful in our days. How do you incorporate simplicity and/or nature into your everyday routine?
First off, I should admit to being more on the maximalist end of the spectrum - but I do incorporate simplicity into my life by removing things I find aesthetically distracting. I can't stand when I see a beautiful potted plant and someone forgot to remove a bar code sticker. I put my dish soap into a honey-bear squeezer so I don't have to read words while doing something as potentially Zen as washing dishes. Things like this (removing clothing tags, buying food that is unlabeled) helps me keep a clearer head.
What woman inspires strength, creativity, and/or intentional living to you and why?
My fellow studio-mate Em Collier is bad-ass in that power-tool-using way that we all aspire to (but I usually fall short of). She is a custom Art framer, working only with NW hardwoods. She's built custom furniture to my exact whims, built out my former store Neapolitan, and framed an entire art show I curated - what a friend! She also has a soft touch and appreciates pretty clothes and cooking an amazing meal. All this and she still manages to bike to work every now and then: a paragon of intentional living.
